Larry Groupé, director and founder of PFMW, is a four-time Emmy® nominee and three-time-winning composer whose career continues to expand. He is a working Hollywood professional in a unique position to offer an in-depth examination on the art and practice of writing music to picture at the highest level. In addition, he has run the gauntlet of directors, producers and studio executives and can provide deep insight into navigating the Hollywood system.
Larry has a multitude of feature films to his credit, such as The Outpost, Straw Dogs, The Contender (2 Academy® Award nominations), Nothing But the Truth, Resurrecting the Champ; and episodic TV series Commander in Chief, Line of Fire (Emmy® nominee, Best Primetime Dramatic Score), HBO’s Mind of the Married Man and now the upcoming series Monsters of Gods.
As a composer and conductor Larry joined the classic rock band Yes to co-write their symphonic CD Magnification. He also joined their symphonic world tour conducting with orchestra and band.
He enjoys fulfilling commissions as composer-in-residence for the San Diego Symphony and other performing ensembles.
Larry is a graduate of the Conservatory of Music-University of the Pacific, and postgraduate studies at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) where he studied with Roger Reynolds, Bernard Rands and composers-in-residence John Cage and Toru Takemitsu.
Between composing assignments he continues to teach a series of Master Classes in Film Scoring in colleges across the country such as: Oberlin, Stanford, UC Berkeley, SUNY Buffalo, UC San Diego, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Jacobs School of Music, Indiana U, and more.
